Two beautiful truths keeping me hopeful tonight after a heavy day: • 1. “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the sinfulness of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-14 • 2. “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17

This week is so good I’m not even counting down to Saturday! *knocks on wood* 😳How’s everyone else’s week going?!

In case you haven’t heard, there were no further cuts to our public schools, and no funding will be used in charter schools at this time! Guys, this is huge: they heard us. We protested, and our chants, social media posts, and phone calls influenced their decision to override the veto of the original budget, and then to pass a budget that does not harm education further. The biggest thing: they heard us. Our voices matter; YOUR voice matters. If you called yesterday, thank you! You helped save the education of millions of Kentucky’s youth! We did that, together—so cool. Now it’s time to vote. 💪🏼

If you’re watching your Kentucky teachers protest and fight for funding for public schools, wondering how on earth you can be a part of this, I have a job for you! If you live or work in Kentucky, you can call the legislatures’ message line (800-372-7181) to voice your opinion to your local senator and representative! It’s so easy, guys. Call the number and a very nice, friendly person will answer the phone to ask for your address and name. Then, all you have to do is tell them, “I want more funding to go to public schools, not charters.” Done. Your voice counts. Your voice is important! Even if you are a student/minor, your phone call will count and go a long way. Put that smartphone to use this Saturday morning!

I would have enjoyed teaching and being with my students much more than protesting today. I wish I could have walked into school like any other day: lesson planned, kids all crazy and pumped up, ready to end this amazing week. However, there are things in life worth fighting. My students are definitely worth that fight, and much more.

The sun came out today and all was right again! Goodness, winter has been never ending this year. 😭
